Where do you teach lesons?I teach lessons in my studio in Park Slope, Brooklyn – 5 minutes from the Atlantic Ave/ Pacific Street train stop. I also will come to you and teach you at your own place if it is more convenient for you. How Much Do you Charge?I charge $30 for a half-an-hour lesson and $50 for an hour lesson if you come to me. Lessons in your home will cost a little extra depending on how long the travel time is. How often should we have lessons?I ask that every student have a lesson once a week, at the same time every week. You can’t really improve without having lessons regularly. Are you flexible if I can’t make my usual lesson time? I will always try to reschedule with you if you can’t make your lesson on a given week, but it will depend on my availability at the time. If we can’t reschedule the lesson for a time that works for both of us, you can always cancel the lesson for that week, but I do ask that you only cancel at most one lesson every two months. What styles of music will we cover? I love all styles of music, and have a lot of experience teaching many of them, including rock, jazz, folk, bluegrass, classical, R&B, funk, and blues. I generally base my lessons around the artists you love and are interested in playing the music of – so even if is something I’m less familiar with, I’d love to explore it with you! What do I need for my first lesson? A manuscript notebook (a notebook with music staves in it instead of lines for writing). You can get one of these at any music store. If you want to learn how to read music (which I suggest, but do not require), I can suggest a method book for you to pick up as well, depending on what instrument you want to learn. Just mention that in your email to me. To get started with your lesson, click here to contact Matt
