Matthew Schlatter is a composer, performer, and educator living and working in Brooklyn. His most recent project is a duo with singer and poet Alaina Ferris. The two perform language-forward, folk oriented vocal duets. Matthew was recently selected as a month long composer-in-residence at the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild. He composes for and performs with the new music ensemble Marigold Opera, an eclectic mix between a chamber group and rock band that he leads with co-composer Nathan Cooke. He also leads the indie rock outfit Instrument Thieves.
Matthew is a teacher of both guitar and piano with over 10 years of experience. He currently teaches over 30 students in his private teaching studio in Kensington, Brooklyn, and also as a member of the faculty of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. His teaching philosophy is simple - share his love of music with his students and engage them by encouraging them to find their own paths in learning music.
